Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress have secured a place at the 2025 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup after advancing to the final of the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women’s Afrobasket Championship.

The Nigerian team triumphed over Uganda 71-67 in a tense semifinal clash on Friday afternoon in Pretoria, South Africa.

The hard-fought victory not only propelled the Junior D’Tigress to the grand finale but also earned them one of the two coveted spots for African teams in next year’s FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Czech Republic.

The Nigerian team’s resilience was on full display as they overcame a determined Ugandan side to book their place in the final.

The Junior D’Tigress will now face eight-time champions and defending title holders Mali in what promises to be an exciting final on Saturday.

Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup highlights the country’s growing prominence in youth basketball, adding to their rich history in African basketball championships.
