Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, led a high-level delegation to Chad on Sunday to meet with President Mahamat Idriss Déby and discuss important security issues.
The delegation included Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye; and Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ali Salau, along with other senior security officers.
The Nigerian delegation presented a written message from President Bola Tinubu to President Déby, which expressed deep condolences and solidarity with Chad following the recent terrorist attack on Barkaram Island.
The attack reportedly led to the deaths of several Chadian soldiers.
In his message, President Tinubu also offered Nigeria’s full support to Chad in the fight against terrorism and reiterated the importance of working together to tackle regional security challenges.
The meeting underscored the strong ties between Nigeria and Chad, especially in addressing regional security issues.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation to ensure peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin region.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama noted that this meeting was a significant step in improving the relationship between the two countries and reinforcing their collective efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region.
Both countries have faced the growing threat of insurgent groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, who have carried out numerous attacks across the Lake Chad region.
The discussions focused on strengthening military collaboration and sharing intelligence to counter these threats.
This visit highlights the ongoing cooperation between Nigeria and Chad, as both nations continue to prioritize regional security and stability in the Lake Chad Basin.
