Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will battle Ivory Coast Elephants on Sunday, December 6, at 4 pm GMT at the Charles De Gaulle Stadium in the ongoing WAFU U20 Zone B tournament.
The event will kick off officially on Saturday, December 5, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.Recall that the Elephants have been absent from the tourney since two editions and will participate in this regional tournament, which allows all to discover future players of national teams A.
They were beaten 2-1 last month in a friendly game by the reigning champion of the Ivorian league 1, the Racing Club Abidjan and the tourney is a new challenge for this Ivorian U20 team.
As for the host country, Benin, they will compete in Group A with Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger.
The winner of the tournament will automatically qualify for the AFCON U20 taking place in 2021 in Mauritania.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare has tasked the Flying Eagles to return with the WAFU title.
The Flying Eagles departed for Cotonou on Friday for the tournament.
Speaking to the team before their departure, Mr Dare said he believes in the talented players in the squad.
“The Flying Eagles have always made us proud, go there and make Nigerians proud.
“We believe you are young, talented and determined. Your coaches have impacted much on you, go there and come back victorious,” he said to the players.
