The Niger State Police have arrested a motor boy in connection with a driver—currently at large—for diverting 900 bags of cement meant for delivery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The police disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stating that the arrest occurred around 9:30am, when a police surveillance patrol team from Bosso Division intercepted a trailer truck with registration number NDG 161 XA at Garima Junction, Bosso.
The trailer, loaded in Obajana, Kogi State, was diverted to Garima Bosso, where it was intended to be sold illegally. Abdullahi Basiru, the motor boy, was arrested in connection with the crime.
The statement read, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was a motor boy to the driver of the truck Ibrahim Yusuf who is at large, that they conspired with one other and removed the truck with intent to sell the cement, abandon the truck and escape before he was arrested.

“The suspect was charged to court for criminal conspiracy and theft on 9th April and was subsequently tried and convicted to ten months imprisonment without an option of fine.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the driver at large. The cement truck was released to the company’s representative through a court order.”
