RaleProject Leadership Forum, a non-governmental organisation based in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, on Sunday, trained secondary school prefects in Ozoro and environ on leadership and the need to be future leaders in the society.
The training held at Anglican Grammar School Hall, Ozoro had in attendance students from Final Touch Secondary School, St Paul’s Secondary School, Heroes Dynamic Group of Schools and Institute of Continuing Education.
Others include Royal Foundation Academy, Alaka Grammar School, Igbonine Grammar School and Opute Memorial School, all in Ozoro.
Also in attendance were Oniovosa Okumoku-Evroro and Isreal Omanudhowho as facilitators, Rev. Chris Edwin-Owhe and Rev. Smith Osakpor as speakers while Mr Terence Obaoghe was the convener.
In declaring the training open, Mr Omovosa Okumoku-Evroro, a facilitator, described leadership as the action of leading a group of people or an organisation.
Oniovosa said a leader could be one who sees how things could be improved and who rallies people to move towards that better vision.
“Leaders can work towards making their vision a reality while putting people first” he said.
On the qualities of a leader, the key note speaker, Rev. Chris Edwin-Odhe, urged the students to be diligent in their doings.
Rev. Chris said for one to lead well, he/she must be an example to the others, adding that proper dressing, politeness, amongst others, were the basic characteristics of a good and future leader.
Another speaker, Rev. Smith Osakpor, admonished students on the need to build themselves as future leaders, saying every student must live a life full of qualities of a leader.
Osakpor urged the students to use their experiences as school prefects to make better leaders in future, adding that any student who does not want to be leader must be led by others.
The Convener of the training and President of RaleProject Leadership Forum, Mr Terence Obaoghe, thanked the participants for their cooperation and assured the students of their continuous engagement to make sure they do not relent in their efforts to become future leaders.
The highlights of the training were the presentation of books written by the NGO to the students to help build their leadership acumen and questions and answers session, where the students asked so many questions bordering them on Leadership.
In appreciation, the students from Heroes Dynamic Group of Schools and Opute Memorial School, thanked the organisation for their efforts and assured them of their readiness to become future leaders of the society
