In a significant development for Nigerian football, Remo Stars’ head coach Daniel Ogunmodede, and Rangers’ Fidelis Ilechukwu have been appointed as assistant coaches to Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen.

The appointments come ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointments on Monday, highlighting the duo’s impressive track record in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Ogunmodede has been instrumental in Remo Stars’ rise in the NPFL, guiding the club to consistent top-tier performances. His tactical acumen and ability to nurture young talent have not gone unnoticed, earning him this national team role.

Similarly, Fidelis Ilechukwu, known for his passionate and energetic approach to coaching, has been a key figure in Rangers’ recent successes. His experience and understanding of the local league are expected to complement Eguavoen’s strategies as the Super Eagles aim to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.

The appointments mark a new chapter in the Super Eagles’ coaching setup as Eguavoen, who has taken up the interim role following the departure of the previous head coach, seeks to build a formidable team for the upcoming qualifiers. The inclusion of Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu is seen as a move to infuse fresh ideas and local expertise into the national team.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Benin Republic and Rwanda in the coming months, with the expectation that the team will secure their spot in the continental tournament. The matches will also serve as an opportunity for Eguavoen and his newly appointed assistants to demonstrate their capabilities on the international stage.

Nigerian football fans will be eagerly watching to see how this new coaching team performs in what is expected to be a challenging qualification campaign.
