New CBN Gov Cardoso, deputies resume work in acting capacity

The newly appointed Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Dr Yemi Cardoso, has formally resumed work at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

On September 15, President Bola Tinubu appointed Cardoso to replace the former CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele said to have now formally resigned.

Cardoso’s resumption was announced on Friday by the CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, in a statement he issued in Abuja.

The CBN spokesman said Cardoso will be working in acting capacity pending the confirmation of his appointment by the Senate.

AbdulMumin added that the deputy governors-designate of the bank have also assumed duty alongside Cardoso in acting capacity, following the formal resignations of the former deputy governors of the CBN, Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora.

According to the statement, Cardoso and his colleagues subscribed to the relevant oaths of office at a brief ceremony held at the Bank’s head office in Abuja on Friday, and have settled down to the task of administering monetary and financial sector policies of the Federal Government.

Cardoso with over three decades of managerial experience, is an economic and development policy advisor, financial sector leader, former chairman of CitiBank Nigeria and ex-commissioner for economic planning and budget in Lagos State.

He’s also an alumnus of Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom, where he studied managerial and administrative studies.
