Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The resignation follows months of speculation and is a result of ongoing factionalism within the party, which Nwoko says had become increasingly unmanageable.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in his local ward, Nwoko explained that factionalization within the party had become irreconcilable.

“I write to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a party I have proudly served as a foundation member since 1999,” he stated.

He further pointed to a physical altercation between top party officials on January 29, 2025, as evidence of the dysfunction within the PDP.

“Just this week, on the 29th of January, top party functionaries descended to the lowest levels by physically fighting among themselves due to these irreconcilable factions.”

Despite his departure, Nwoko expressed gratitude for the opportunities the PDP gave him, particularly during the 2022/2023 senatorial election campaign.

“I am also grateful for the platform the PDP provided me to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election, which allowed me to directly engage with the people of my constituency and present my vision for a brighter future,” he added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made to his constituents, acknowledging that the party’s current structure was not conducive to achieving those goals.

“Unfortunately, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to fulfilling these promises,” Nwoko said.

Nwoko assured his supporters that his decision was made in their best interests. “While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North,” he concluded.
