This represents 60.55% of the 1,376,436 candidates who sat for the examination, according to NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi.
At a press briefing held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State on Thursday, Wushishi provided a detailed breakdown of the results, revealing that 83.9% of candidates earned five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
“The number of candidates who obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, is 828,284, which represents 60.55%,” Prof. Wushishi stated. “In terms of candidates who earned five credits and above in any subject, the figure stands at 1,147,597, representing 83.90%.”
Reduction in Exam Malpractices
Wushishi also highlighted a significant reduction in examination malpractice compared to previous years. He reported that 8,407 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice during the 2024 examination, a decrease from the 12,030 cases recorded in 2023.
“NECO is committed to maintaining the integrity of its examinations, and we are pleased to report a reduction in malpractice cases,” he said.
He further disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were identified for mass cheating and will face disciplinary panels. “Appropriate sanctions will be applied to these schools,” Wushishi confirmed.
Blacklisting of Supervisors
Additionally, the Council has recommended the blacklisting of 21 supervisors for misconduct, including extortion and drunkenness during the examination process.
“The blacklisted supervisors will no longer be allowed to participate in future examinations conducted by NECO,” Wushishi stated, reinforcing the Council’s zero-tolerance policy for unethical behavior.
