NDLEA Warns: Drug-Laced Sweets Targeting Children Found in Kano Markets

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has sounded an urgent warning about the circulation of sweets suspected to contain intoxicating substances, calling on parents to be extra vigilant about what their children consume.

Addressing Newsmen in Kano, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, revealed that reports have surfaced about candies resembling ordinary chocolate but potentially laced with harmful substances that could intoxicate unsuspecting consumers.

“These sweets are being sold to unsuspecting children, especially when they go to school,” Maigatari disclosed, raising concerns about the potential dangers lurking in what should be harmless treats.

He urged parents to closely observe their children for any unusual behavior, emphasizing, “Parents should be on the lookout for sudden changes in their children’s eating habits and sleeping patterns.”

Reassuring the public, the NDLEA reaffirmed its dedication to identifying and apprehending those behind this alarming development, ensuring that harmful substances stay far from vulnerable groups.
