In a troubling development for Nigeria’s power sector, the national grid appeared to have again suffered a partial collapse on Tuesday, plunging significant parts of the country into a blackout.
This latest incident highlights ongoing concerns about grid stability and raises fresh questions about the resilience of the nation’s energy infrastructure.
It was gathered that power generation saw a steep decline, hitting zero megawatts between 2 pm and 3 pm after initially peaking at 3,934.77 megawatts around 6 am.
By 1 pm, output had already dipped to 2,711 MW, with the grid ultimately losing all generation capacity around 1:39 pm.
The TCN emphasized that the power disruption had only partially impacted the national grid, and specific regions were not affected by the bulk power disruption.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers,” Mbah said.
This incident marks the latest in a series of grid failures, following multiple occurrences in recent months that have sparked public frustration and raised issues over Nigeria’s grid reliability.
