The National Assembly has postponed its return from recess by one week, pushing the new resumption date to Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
This was confirmed in an official statement issued Monday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
Lawmakers from both the Senate and the House of Representatives were initially expected to reconvene on April 29, following a recess that began on March 27.
However, Ogunlana said the extension was granted to allow members to participate in Workers’ Day activities and handle matters within their constituencies.
“This extension allows distinguished senators and honourable members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to other engagements in their constituencies,” the clerk stated.
He further apologized for any inconvenience the change may cause, urging the public and legislators to take note of the updated schedule.

Meanwhile, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, in his Easter message, highlighted ongoing legislative efforts aimed at tackling the country’s security issues.
He revealed that the National Assembly is working on legal frameworks to establish state police—a major step in decentralizing security management.
“We urge security agencies to work together as a team to track and apprehend all the masterminds and sponsors of terror attacks nationwide,” Bamidele said.
As the 10th National Assembly continues its work, the extension offers lawmakers more time to engage with citizens and push forward key national reforms.
