Nigeria Labour Congress, on Monday, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address the current fuel and naira scarcity in the country or risk a nationwide strike by workers.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, Issued the ultimatum while briefing newsmen at Labour House, Abuja, on the outcome of a meeting convened by the Central Working Committee of the congress.
Ajaero said the union would declare nationwide strike and mass action if both problems are not addressed after seven days.
The NLC President, who lamented the hardship Nigerians are experiencing following the naira redesign policy of the Federal Government, warned that on the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum, workers would be directed to stay away from work if nothing was done by the FG.
He further condemned the perennial fuel scarcity in the country, saying that workers and Nigerians were being pushed to the wall.
Ajaero, who spoke before the meeting went into a closed-door session, said, “On this issue of fuel scarcity and cash crunch, the Congress wishes to inform the Federal Government that we will no longer keep quiet.
“The NLC is giving the Central Bank of Nigeria and the FG seven working days, if they fail to do the needful at the expiration of the seven days, all workers in Nigeria should stay at home.”
