NAFDAC Seizes Unregistered Food Products Worth Over N3.8bn in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the seizure of unregistered food products valued at over N3.8 billion during a raid in Lagos State.

The agency’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate conducted the operation at a warehouse in the Apongbon Oke Arin Market, following a tip-off about the sale of unregistered food items.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, NAFDAC disclosed that “various unregistered items valued at N3,818,802,720 were seized during the operation, and the facility has been placed on hold pending further investigation.”

The agency added that the management of the warehouse has been summoned for questioning and that sanctions will be imposed following the conclusion of the investigation.

Reaffirming its commitment to public health and safety, NAFDAC emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance and urged consumers to remain vigilant, particularly during the festive season.

“We also urge the public to remain vigilant during the festive season and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the statement read.

NAFDAC’s recent enforcement highlights its proactive approach in tackling the distribution of unregistered and potentially harmful products, safeguarding public health, and upholding food and drug standards in Nigeria.
