Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has sent troops to Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi State after a recent attack by the terrorist group Lakurawa left at least 17 dead in Mera village.

The deployment follows an urgent request from Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, seeking federal intervention to address the violence affecting local communities.

Upon arrival, the troops, armed with armoured tanks and advanced weaponry, met with Kebbi State Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida before advancing to Mera.

The soldiers engaged the terrorists, recovering rustled cattle that were abandoned as the group retreated.

Governor Idris’ media aide, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said the governor had turned to the federal government to help counter terrorism that has disrupted rural life.

“The governor has pledged to ensure the safety of lives and property for all Kebbi State citizens, prompting him to seek federal assistance to counter terrorism across the state,” Zuru stated.

The Lakurawa attack has left Mera village reeling and displaced many residents.
