Kehinde Fajobi

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members seeking redeployment will no longer be required to change their maiden name to their spouse’s name.

This was disclosed in a circular signed by the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, and issued to directors, acting directors, and state and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators.

The circular, dated 25 November 2024, and titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members,” stated that the management had approved a review of the criteria for such redeployment requests.

It clarified, “Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such requests by married female corps members. Other requirements remain as they were.”

The NYSC directed state and FCT coordinators to ensure full compliance with the new directive, while area office directors were instructed to monitor its implementation.
