American singer Mariah Carey has confirmed that her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, both passed away on the same day last weekend.
The multiple Grammy-winning artist shared this in a statement on the 26th of August, 2024, but did not reveal the causes of death or the exact date.
“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I was blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey said.
Patricia, before her death, was a renowned opera singer, and she collaborated with her daughter Mariah on several occasions.
Also, Mariah Carey has shared that her mother was the inspiration behind her music career.
Carey had a strained relationship with her sister, Alison. In her memoir, as reported by Variety, Carey disclosed that she found it “emotionally and physically safer” to avoid contact with both her sister Alison and her brother Morgan.
Recall that Carey’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, passed away from cancer in 2002.
