A 21-year-old man, identified only as Zuozoa, from Agudama-Ekpetiama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has been arrested for allegedly defiling a teenage daughter of a serving police inspector.
The suspect, said to be a former undergraduate of a private university before he was rusticated due to cult-related activities, allegedly raped the 16-year-old girl, who is also his relation.
The incident allegedly took place in the girl’s family house in Agudama-Ekpetiama community in Yenagoa area of the state.
A close family member, who craved anonymity, said the suspect, who resides in Yenagoa, the state capital, went into hiding after committing the act.
“So, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday,” the source alleged.
But when contacted, spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said the information he received from the father of the teenager, an inspector of police, was that the cousin assaulted his daughter, but not rape.
“The inspector told me that the man beat up his daughter but did not rape her. He said it is untrue to say that his daughter was raped,” he stated.
