Lagos State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and other development partners will on Friday, June 17, 2022, kick off a statewide vaccination campaign against measles.
The vaccination campaign will run for three weeks.
This was contained in a statement entitled, “Notification of Year 2022 Measles Vaccination Campaign (MVC),” signed by LSPHCB Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim A. Mustafa.
According to the statement, the campaign will commence on Friday at 7am daily and children from nine (9) months old to five (5) years, regardless of their previous immunization status, are eligible and qualified to be immunized during the three-week vaccination campaign.
It also listed the venues for the immunization campaign to include health centres, hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, markets and other designated posts in the community.
The Board said the vaccination campaign was part of the efforts of the Lagos State Government to protect children against measles, which is one of the six major childhood killer diseases.
It reminded parents that “Measles is a highly contagious viral disease and it remains an important cause of death among young children globally. However, measles undoubtedly is one of the diseases that can be prevented through vaccination.”
The statement added, “In addition to this, Vitamin A supplement will be administered to all children age 6 months to 5 years to prevent blindness and to boost the immunity of the child.
“Also, adults 18 years and above will have opportunity for COVID 19 vaccination during the exercise.”
