The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was not attacked on Wednesday in Maiduguru, Borno State, according to the All Progressives Congress.
Dino Melaye, the PDP’s spokesperson, had asserted that Atiku had been assaulted by thugs during the party’s rally in Maiduguri.
Melaye stated that over 100 automobiles were vandalised by thugs, and no fewer than 74 people hospitalised.
He said the attack was part of efforts by the APC to thwart their campaign in the state.
But responding, Ali Bukar Dalori, the Chairman of the APC in Borno State, accused Melaye of lying, saying that no opposition party convoys had ever been attacked by APC thugs in the state.
According to Dalori, since Governor Babagana Zulum assumed office, he has outlawed political thuggery throughout the state.
He said that the current administration of Zulum upholds the law unlike several states, adding that the government did not refuse the PDP a location for their rally.
Noting that the people of Borno are averse to the PDP, he said Melaye should stop making up stories about the APC if he doesn’t know what to say to the Borno people or how to canvas for their votes.
