Abdulrahman, better known by his stage name Oxlade, was fined N5 million in damages by an Ikeja High Court in Lagos State as a result of a leaked sex tape online with a lady who was identified as John Blessing.
Justice Olalekan Oresanya referred to the musician’s secretly recording of having sex with a woman as “despicable, horrendous, classless and distasteful,” in his ruling.
Recall that the singer’s sex tape was seen online without the woman’s permission.
Outrage over the leaked tape led Oxlade to publicly apologise to the woman involved as well as his followers.
Blessing had filed a lawsuit in March 2022 asking for N20 million in damages and a ruling that the singer had flagrantly violated enabling laws and violated her fundamental rights to dignity, privacy, and freedom from discrimination under Sections 34 and 37 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Articles 5 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (Ratification and Enforcement), Act, CAP A9, LFN, 2004.
In addition, Justice Oresanya chastised the performer for disrespecting the legal system and said that his lawyer was complicit in the singer’s desecration of the temple of justice.
Oxlade was directed to pay Blessing the sum of N5 million in damages over two equal installments by the judge who approved the terms of settlement on January 11th, 2023.
