The Scholarship Board of the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola-YAYI, has released the names of the first batch of its beneficiaries, totalling 536 students.
Of the beneficiaries, the Daughter of the late immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Soji Amosu, Mary Abisola led the pack of sixteen beneficiaries from her ivory tower, the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), where She reads law.
The beneficiaries, drawn from fifty-six higher institutions across the country would draw a yet-to-be disclosed amount to provide succour for their educational pursuits, scoop from within the Board revealed.
Less than 24 hrs from now, another batch of one thousand beneficiaries under the bursary category would be released.
Award ceremony to the readily available students beneficiaries would be done on Saturday at the pavilion in Ilaro, while modalities are being mooted to accommodate those in distant higher institutions.
Reacting to the Senator’s large heartedness, on Sunday, widow of the late NUJ Chair, Mrs. Oluwaseun Amosu thanked the Lawmaker for the gesture which she described as a balm of Gilead to her.
“This is soothing, the shortlist of Mary for the scheme is like robbing a balm of gilead on me.
It’s been a herculean task combining the role of a father and mother, more so now.
“Only our good God, the husband of widows and father to the fatherless can reward the Senator for this, like the many we have heard about him,” the Abeokuta born Teacher said.
