Lagos Police Probe Explosion at CCTV Shop in Ikeja’s Computer Village

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into an explosion that occurred at a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera dealer shop in the Ikeja area of the state.

The incident, which took place around 6:35 p.m. on Friday at Kodesho Street in Computer Village, prompted immediate response from law enforcement and emergency units.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Mobile Police Detachment, and conventional police teams swiftly secured and cordoned off the affected area to ensure public safety.

“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of the command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” the statement read.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reportedly arrived at the scene shortly after the blast for an immediate assessment.

While the cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, the police have assured the public that the area has been rendered safe and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

“Residents are urged to remain calm and continue their daily activities without panic or fear, as the situation is under control,” the police spokesperson added.

Five individuals who were inside and around the affected shop at the time of the explosion sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were promptly rescued and transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical treatment.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, promising to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.
