The Lagos State government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the successful arrest of 94 individuals identified as illegal squatters, miscreants, and suspected criminals during a late-night security operation.
The raid, which took place along the rail-track corridor between the Pen-Cinema under bridge and Fagba Junction, was initiated in response to growing concerns from local residents and commuters about criminal activities in the area.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, the operation commenced at approximately 2:30 AM on Tuesday and covered a stretch of more than five kilometers.
Security operatives dismantled illegal structures and shanties while apprehending the suspects.
During the raid, law enforcement officials recovered a variety of incriminating items, including a locally fabricated shotgun, several wraps of suspected Indian hemp, charms, and a jackknife.
The government emphasized that the arrested individuals would face legal proceedings and be charged accordingly.
Wahab explained that the operation was a direct response to complaints regarding the increasing criminal activities and the encroachment of illegal squatters along key transportation corridors, particularly the rail-track areas.
The raid marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore security in vulnerable communities.
Authorities have vowed to continue such operations to maintain law and order, ensuring that the state remains safe for all residents.
