There are concerns over the whereabouts of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, following bandits’ attack on Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, where he had been detained.
Scores of gunmen had attacked the Custodial Centre in the Kuje area council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Tuesday night.
Some inmates had escaped from the facility during the attack which lasted hours.
The Kuje prison is known for holding high-profile inmates and suspects, including former governors and ministers and has the capacity to house over 900 inmates.
“We have not seen him today. He didn’t also come for Subhi (early morning) prayer as usual. But I don’t know what is happening,” a prison source said.
But a prison official, who pleaded anonymity, said Kyari’s whereabouts remained unknown as of this morning.
“I am sure he is not missing and he didn’t escape. But I don’t know where exactly he is,” the official said.
But spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar, said “Kyari is not missing”.
He also said Kyari had not been relocated from the Kuje prison.
