Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for state civil servants, a significant increase aimed at improving worker welfare.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Kebbi, Murtala Usman, confirmed the development on Wednesday, praising the governor’s decision.

“Mr Governor has shown that he is with the workers in the state. We proposed three tables—₦72,000, ₦73,000, and ₦75,000—and he decided to go for ₦75,000, which shows he is for the workers,” Usman said.

He also shared that the governor had ordered immediate implementation, stating, “To crown it all, he also said the payment starts this month of October, salaries which he categorically said should be made available to workers in the next 72 hours.”

In contrast, the leadership of the labour union in Sokoto has called on their state government to expedite action on the implementation of a new minimum wage for workers in their state.
