Katsina bandits kill 2, abduct 15, rustle livestock in attacks

Armed bandits launched deadly attacks on two communities in Katsina State, killing two people, abducting 15 others, and rustling a large number of livestock.

The first attack took place in Unguwar Fadi, where gunmen stormed the community at night, opening fire and killing two residents before abducting 15 people.

In another raid, the assailants struck Yargoje community, making away with an unspecified number of cattle and other livestock, leaving residents in panic.

Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the incidents on Sunday via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Yesterday night, bandits attacked the Unguwar Fadi community, where they killed two people and abducted 15 people. In a similar vein, they raided Yargoje community, where they rustled a large number of cattle and livestock,” he wrote.

The attacks add to the growing security challenges in Katsina State, which has been plagued by banditry, kidnappings, and cattle rustling in recent years.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attacks, but residents are calling on authorities to take urgent action to curb the rising wave of violence in the region.

Katsina, like many states in the Northwest and North Central regions, has been a hotspot for bandit attacks, with rural communities often left vulnerable to heavily armed criminals.

Despite military operations in the region, bandits continue to wreak havoc, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

Residents are urging the government to intensify efforts to tackle the security crisis and protect communities from further attacks.
