The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced multiple convictions achieved in a single day, reflecting its commitment to upholding the rule of law and a zero-tolerance stance on drug offences.
Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, shared the news in a statement on Thursday, emphasising that the recent convictions highlight the agency’s resolve to combat drug trafficking.
“The Agency secured multiple convictions in one day, underscoring our resolve to maintain law and order and rid society of drug traffickers,” he stated.
Among those convicted was 25-year-old Ibrahim Tahir, found guilty on three separate drug charges. Each count carries a three-year sentence, totalling nine years in prison.
In a notable case, 40-year-old James Temitope Ajayi, an ex-convict and well-known distributor of Cannabis Sativa, received a seven-year sentence for trafficking illicit substances. Maigatari pointed out the significance of Temitope’s conviction, given his history of cross-regional drug trafficking.
Maigatari added that these convictions have disrupted a major drug supply chain, helping to protect communities from the dangers posed by illicit substances.
“These convictions are part of our consistent efforts to disrupt major supply chains and safeguard communities from the devastating impact of drug abuse,” he explained.
Additionally, two other offenders, Adekunle Sunday Adebayo, 40, and Yahaya Mamuda, 35, each received six-year sentences for drug-related crimes. The court ruled that none of the convicts were offered fines, reinforcing the seriousness of drug offences.
Maigatari noted that the swift justice in these cases sends a strong message that crime does not pay. “By holding offenders accountable for their actions, Justice Shuaibu is contributing to a safer, more just society,” he remarked.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. CN AI Ahmad, praised the support of the NDLEA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), which has been vital for these successes.
Ahmad also expressed gratitude to Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to combating drug abuse and recognised the efforts of Justice Shuaibu and the Command’s legal unit in securing these convictions.
