The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed the premises of several major businesses, including the Bank of Agriculture, First City Merchant Bank (FCMB), and Unity Bank, for failing to pay taxes amounting to ₦1.5 billion.
Aisha Ahmed, the Board Secretary of KADIRS, confirmed the action during an enforcement exercise in Kaduna, where over 20 business premises were shut down due to outstanding land-based revenue liabilities.
According to Ahmed, the exercise is aimed at meeting the state’s annual revenue target of ₦120 billion, set by Governor Uba Sani.
She stressed the importance of businesses paying taxes on time to support the state’s economic growth.
“The enforcement is part of our commitment to achieving the state’s revenue goals and ensuring the socioeconomic development of Kaduna,” Ahmed said.
She urged businesses in the state to fulfill their tax obligations, emphasizing that timely payments help fund critical public services and infrastructure.
The sealed businesses will remain closed until the unpaid taxes are settled, as KADIRS has secured a court order to take over the properties.
KADIRS warned that any business found evading taxes would face further enforcement measures.
Ahmed noted that the agency is committed to holding businesses accountable and ensuring compliance with tax laws across the state.
The move is part of a broader effort by the Kaduna State government to increase revenue collection and reduce tax evasion.
