The Ruruma community in Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has called on the Federal Government to establish a military base in Kwassam, its headquarters, to address the persistent killings and abductions by bandits.
In a statement released on Sunday, the community’s National President, Daniel Dallah, highlighted the urgent need for a military presence to ensure security and allow displaced residents to return to their homes and farms.
Dallah stated, “The military formation in Kwassam will enable displaced communities to return to their ancestral lands, where they have farms and agricultural produce.
Currently, our traditional leader, Dauda Abdulsalam, the Pugom Kumana, has not been able to return home for several years due to an assassination attempt by bandits.”
He criticised the Executive Chairman of Kauru LGA for excluding Kwassam and other vulnerable communities in the Kumana Chiefdom from security reports presented to the General Officer Commanding, 3rd Division Jos.
Dallah added, “The establishment of a military base in Kwassam, the headquarters of the Ruruma Community, will benefit the entire Kumana Chiefdom and neighbouring communities such as Dokan Karji, Sabon Gida Libere, Maikudumi, Fili, Unguwan Nabara, Mahuta, Sabon Layi, Kan’makama, Ungwan Isah, Ruwan Sanyi, Ungwan Danja.
As well as Ungwan Maizuma, Ungwan Zango, Ungwan Gayya, Ungwan Garkuwa, and Nasarawa, which currently have no military presence, not even a Police division.”
The community expressed readiness to work with security agencies and urged the Federal Government to support Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, in addressing their security challenges.
“We are appealing to the Federal Government to intensify efforts in supporting our Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, as he responds to our plight,” Dallah concluded.
