The Abia State Government shared on the 3rd of January, 2025, that more than 17,000 applicants have flooded the online portal for the ongoing teachers’ recruitment.
This overwhelming response follows Governor Alex Otti’s approval to recruit 2,000 teachers across Primary, Secondary, and Technical Colleges in the state.
Providing an update on the recruitment process, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, revealed this impressive application figure while addressing journalists after this week’s executive council meeting, presided over by Governor Alex Otti on the 3rd of January.
He further hinted that the numbers were still rising.
“So far, over 17,000 applications have been received and processed and still counting,” Kanu stated, emphasizing the transparency of the recruitment process.
According to him, shortlisted candidates would be required to undergo Computer-Based Tests (CBT) before progressing to the final stage—an oral interview.
On another front, Kanu addressed concerns surrounding the pension crisis in the state, asserting that the leadership of the pensioners was never deceived by the government regarding the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP).
