The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the release of the results for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, made the announcement on Friday during a press briefing held in Abuja.

Oloyede disclosed that more than 1.9 million candidates sat for the examination across the country. However, he revealed that the results of 39,834 candidates are being withheld due to concerns related to examination malpractices. He emphasized that 80 individuals are currently under investigation for various forms of exam fraud, with Anambra State accounting for the highest number of suspects, 14 in total.

“Out of the 2,030,862 candidates who registered for the 2025 UTME, 1,957,000 candidates were successfully verified for the examination, while 71,705 candidates were absent,” Oloyede said.

He also noted that 2,157 candidates’ fingerprints were rejected by the biometric verification system, citing registration issues and irregularities that would be thoroughly reviewed.

Oloyede further elaborated that 467 underage candidates had taken the exam, with some surpassing the minimum cut-off mark. While this raised concerns, he assured that these cases would be carefully evaluated.

“A total of 41,027 underage candidates had registered for the examination, of which 40,260 sat for the test. Their results are now isolated for further scrutiny to identify any exceptional cases,” he added.

In terms of the overall success of the examination, Oloyede declared the 2025 UTME the most successful in recent years. The exam, which took place across 882 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, involved over 10,000 officials, including invigilators and technical staff.

“This year’s examination was conducted with the utmost professionalism and integrity,” Oloyede asserted. “Each CBT centre was generally monitored by 10 invigilators of different categories, and this level of oversight has contributed to the success of the process.”

Despite the challenges posed by irregularities, including underage candidates and biometric discrepancies, JAMB remains committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in its processes. The board has pledged to address all issues related to malpractice in a thorough and transparent manner.

The results of the withheld candidates are expected to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the integrity of the examination process is maintained.
