JAMB Opens Portal for UTME 2025 Result Checking

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates who participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now check their results.

The announcement, shared on Friday, offers hope to the over two million candidates who registered for the highly anticipated computer-based exam.

Candidates can easily access their results by texting “RESULT” followed by their registration number to either 55019 or 66019 via SMS.

A record number of candidates, more than 1.94 million, sat the examination, which took place from April 24 to May 5, 2025, as they vie for spots in Nigeria’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

However, in a statistical update released earlier, JAMB pointed out a concerning trend in the results.

Approximately 78 percent of candidates scored below 200 points out of the 400 available, highlighting ongoing challenges in performance.

Only a small percentage, 0.63 percent (12,421 candidates), managed to score above 300 points.

Professor Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB’s Registrar, addressed concerns over the poor performance, stressing that this outcome aligns with the historical patterns observed in the UTME results over the past 12 years. “These results are not out of the ordinary,” Oloyede remarked. “The performance statistics mirror those from previous years.”

The examination also saw irregularities. Of the 40,247 underage candidates who sat the exam as ‘exceptional candidates,’ only 467 (about 1.16 percent) scored high enough to meet the established threshold.

Additionally, 71,701 candidates were absent, and over 2,000 cases of suspected malpractice are under investigation.

JAMB also revealed that 97 candidates were caught engaging in malpractice, while 2,185 others remain under scrutiny.

The results of those flagged for misconduct or pending investigations have been withheld until the review processes are completed.

The Board’s latest findings underscore both the academic challenges faced by many candidates and the ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the UTME.
