The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is seeking support from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State to tackle illegal petroleum smuggling.

Alhaji Ado Garba, the state coordinator of IPMAN’s National Task Force, made the appeal during a visit to the NSCDC headquarters in Katsina on Wednesday.

Garba explained that the recently established task force is dedicated to monitoring and addressing issues like illegal oil bunkering, smuggling, pipeline vandalism, and adulteration of petroleum products.

“Part of our terms of reference is to collaborate with the NSCDC, as the lead agency, and other security agencies for intelligence-sharing and operations to tackle these challenges in the downstream sector,” Garba stated.

He emphasised that the visit aimed to foster a collaborative relationship with the NSCDC, adding, “This is to ensure we achieve our objectives in curbing petroleum-related malpractices.”

He also commended NSCDC Commandant Jamilu Indabawa for his commitment to safety and security in Katsina State.

In response, Commandant Indabawa assured IPMAN of the NSCDC’s support, highlighting the command’s updated strategies for addressing smuggling and other illicit activities.

He urged public cooperation, stating, “The command will not relent in its efforts to provide security across the state.”
