…as police arrest protests’ leader, Sharif
Barely 24 hours after a fresh protest rocked Katsina over worsening insecurity in the state, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Mangunu and other top security officers stormed the state capital.
Tuesday’s protesters had demanded the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Masari for their inability to tackle the insecurity that had resulted in the loss of many lives and property.
Also in the NSA’s entourage were the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi; the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; and top police officers, among others.
Upon their arrival at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International airport, the security chiefs moved to the Government House, where they went into a closed door meeting with Governor Masari and other top state government officials.
Meanwhile, the police have detained the leader of the Coalition of Northern Groups, Nastura Ashir Sharif, for organising the peaceful protest in Katsina.
CNG said in a statement on its Facebook page that Sharif was arrested and moved to Abuja shortly after the protests on Tuesday.
He was said to have been taken to Abuja by the Katsina State commissioner of police.
