INEC Begins Voter Registration in Anambra Ahead of Nov Gov Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun a fresh round of continuous voter registration (CVR) across the 326 wards in Anambra State, in preparation for the upcoming November 8 governorship election.

Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, made the announcement on Friday, July 4, urging eligible voters to take advantage of the opportunity. The ongoing exercise will run until July 17.

“We are ready for the elections, everything has been supplied to us,” Agwu said. “I’m only begging the residents of the state to come forward for the CVR because you’re doing disservice to yourself, the state and the nation if you do not come out and vote on the election day.”

She clarified that the new voter data being collected will not apply to the upcoming by-elections in Anambra South senatorial zone and Onitsha North 1 constituency, both of which lost their representatives last year.

According to her, a second phase of the registration will begin on August 16, after the by-elections, and will end on August 26.

To ensure smooth operations, Agwu disclosed that INEC has received 326 registration scanners and configured BVAS machines from the commission’s national headquarters.

She also confirmed that training for ad-hoc staff is already underway and public awareness campaigns are ongoing across the state.

With preparations in full swing, INEC is calling on Anambra residents to get registered and participate in shaping the state’s political future.
