Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, congratulated Nigerians on the nation’s 62nd Independence Day celebration and promised that the country would once more flourish.
The former vice president stated that the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day symbolises faith that Nigeria will overcome all obstacles in a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Friday.
According to Atiku, the event provides an additional chance to reinvigorate Nigerians’ awareness of the need to strengthen their nation’s unity among its many ethnic groups.
Democracy provides the necessary counterbalance to the problems the nation is currently facing, according to Waziri Adamawa, who added that Nigeria has advanced significantly since gaining independence.
According to Atiku, the difficulties are due to the shortcomings of the All Progressives Congress’ economic agenda.
The former Vice President further said that Nigeria’s problems are made worse by the country’s growing lack of togetherness.
The statement partly read, “The Wazirin Adamawa noted further that, though Nigeria is beset with challenges that range from inadequacies of our economic plans to cover a large percentage of our people who live below the poverty line; to security skirmishes that daily threaten the safety of lives and property of Nigerians, the root cause of these problems is traceable to the increasing lack of unity amongst us.
“He, however, assured that as one people and under the canopy of one country sharing in one future, Nigeria will surmount her challenges and enthrone a nation of dreams.
“And as Nigeria goes into the general elections next year, Atiku Abubakar urged everyone to give the issue of building national unity primary attention.
“Nigerians should elect leaders who are individuals with proven track records of being protagonists of unity and peace.
“I believe that when we fix the issues that continue to compromise our national unity, we would invariably fix issues that upset our peace and security and subsequently create an environment that can encourage economic prosperity”.
Atiku urged the citizens of the world community to keep believing in the nation.
He equally called on all religious people in the nation to continue pleading with God to maintain Nigeria as a peaceful and prosperous nation.
