Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has raised concerns over increasing reports of extortion and high-handedness by some officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers in Abuja, Egbetokun addressed Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other heads of formations, urging them to properly supervise officers under their command.
“I charge you all to ensure that the highest standards of professional conduct are maintained, especially when carrying out lawful duties,” the IGP said.
He instructed the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, and Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to perform routine checks on officers’ activities to curb misconduct.
Egbetokun also warned officers against using his name to extort money from citizens, stressing that such behaviour would not be tolerated.
