The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed an immediate clampdown on the culprits behind the January 9 explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, which killed two officers.

The attack, carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists around 12:10 a.m., claimed the lives of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, according to ASP Nahum Daso, the Borno State Command’s spokesperson.

Condemning the incident, Egbetokun vowed that those responsible for the deaths would face justice.

“No individual or group involved in killing police officers will go unpunished,” he said in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday.

The IG expressed condolences to the families of the fallen officers, promising swift payment of their entitlements.

“Their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten,” Egbetokun stated.

He also instructed AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie of Zone 15 to deploy all necessary resources and personnel to track down the attackers, emphasising collaboration with other security agencies.

Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring public safety and warned that anyone attempting to disrupt national security would be held accountable.

Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
