The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, on Friday, deployed detectives to hunt for the suspected robbers that attacked the First Bank branch in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
First News reports that no fewer than nine persons, including eight policemen, were shot dead on Thursday, when suspected armed robbers attacked the police divisional headquarters and the First Bank branch in Isanlu.
But the IGP, in a statement on Friday, ordered a “full-scale manhunt” for the criminals.
According to the statement, “The IGP while condemning the incident, has deployed a team of crack detectives from the Intelligence Response Team, the Special Tactical Squad, and Federal-SARS to Kogi State to ensure that the criminals are apprehended and brought to book.
“The IGP has also directed the AIG of Police in charge of the Zone-8 Police Headquarters, Lokoja, AIG Yunana Babas, to immediately assess and review the security arrangement in Kogi State and environ so as to prevent any future occurrence of such untoward incident in the State.”
While sympathising with the families of the policemen and civilians killed by the suspected robbers in the attack, the IGP assured that the perpetrators would soon be exposed by the ongoing investigations.
The police boss appealed to the Isanlu community and the entire state to remain calm and volunteer credible information that could be useful in to efforts being made to arrest all the criminals.
