ICPC Expands Oversight with ₦610 Billion Project Tracking Initiative

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched the seventh phase of its groundbreaking Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Exercise, marking a significant step in promoting accountability and transparency in public projects.

The initiative, which started in 2019, aims to ensure that funds allocated to key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water resources, and power are properly utilized.

ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare revealed in a statement on Tuesday that this phase involves tracking 1,500 projects across 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a combined value of ₦610 billion.

The exercise covers several government agencies, including intervention bodies like the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Other agencies involved include the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA).

“The objective of the exercise is to deepen adherence to due process in the execution of government projects, improve value for money, and entrench the culture of compliance with contract scope and specifications,” Bakare stated.

Starting November 18, the initiative will scrutinize projects in the FCT and states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including Lagos, Kano, Rivers, Kaduna, and Enugu.

By holding public institutions to account, the ICPC aims to curb corruption and ensure that citizens benefit directly from government spending.

With this phase covering a wide range of sectors and agencies, the commission is sending a strong message about its commitment to fiscal responsibility and service delivery.

This latest effort underscores the importance of sustained oversight in preventing wastage and ensuring that public funds translate into meaningful development for Nigerians.
