Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly refuted circulating reports on social media suggesting that he regrets joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) due to alleged mistreatment by the party’s leadership.
The rumors gained traction following claims made by the caretaker committee chairman of the APC, Chief Tony Okocha, who alleged that Amaechi had warned against being invited to any APC-related activities.
However, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a close ally of Amaechi, issued a statement on Monday dismissing these reports as baseless fabrications.
Eze clarified that Amaechi has not engaged with any media outlets or authorized anyone to spread such falsehoods.
He stated, “Amaechi never had any media audience with any faceless person, neither did he authorize anyone anywhere to manufacture such falsehood as the report portrays.”
Eze emphasized that Amaechi harbors no regrets in his role in building and nurturing the APC into a formidable political force.
He stressed that leadership challenges in Nigeria are not necessarily linked to political parties but rather to broader issues of governance.
“Amaechi, like every other Nigerian, regrets the odious insensitivity of the ruling class to the plight of the ordinary people of the country and the difficult times the loud negligence of government holds as a consequence,” Eze stated.
However, he maintained that the report in question was the work of individuals acting on their own and without Amaechi’s consent.
Eze further criticized those spreading the false narrative, describing them as “political charlatans and their sponsors who are hell-bent on destroying a hand that once fed them.”
He insisted that Amaechi remains a dedicated party man, committed to the growth and success of the APC.
Eze also disclosed that upon bringing the false report to Amaechi’s attention, the former minister categorically denied the claims, stating, “I did not say that rubbish.”
Amaechi, according to Eze, remains proud of his contributions to the APC, particularly his role in transforming Nigeria’s rail transportation and helping to bring President Muhammadu Buhari to power.
“He has no regret for whatsoever he did in making history by transforming rail transportation in Nigeria, neither does he have any regret bringing Buhari to power,” Eze concluded.
The refutation aims to set the record straight amid ongoing speculations about Amaechi’s political stance and relationship with the APC.
