. Brigade of Guard troops from Abuja part of team deployed to effect Yoruba Nation agitator’s arrest
Fresh indications have emerged on how the killing of one of the soldiers deployed to effect the arrest of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, provoked the reprisals and large scale destruction of his Ibadan, Oyo State, home midnight Thursday.
It was gathered from military sources that the soldier from Brigade of Guards, Abuja, was promptly shot dead by guards at Igboho’s house when the joint security team deployed to arrest the Yoruba Nation agitator arrived his residence, and the soldier attempted to scale the fence to gain entry.
The killing of the soldier, it was learnt, infuriated the other members of the joint security team, who immediately unleashed maximum force and heavy gunfire on Igboho’s house in retaliation.
They shortly forced their way into the house and confronted Igboho’s armed guards in a shoot-out.
It was learnt that at this juncture, Igboho and some of his aides, had to beat a retreat to escape from the house, as five of his men had already been brought down by the superior fire power of the combined security forces.
It was also gathered that no fewer than 12 Ak-47 riffles and other arms were recovered from Igboho’s house during the operation.
