Pop music star, Davido has broken his silence about mourning his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, who died on October 31, 2022.
The toddler reportedly drowned in his father’s swimming pool at their highbrow Banana Island home in Lagos.
Davido known to be a bubbly person and very active on social media went silent since the death of his son.
He cancelled all his lined-up shows and tours except his performance at the closing ceremony of the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
The Afrobeat star in an interview with CNN African Voices revealed that Ifeanyi’s death was a loss he and his wife shouldn’t bear.
But the singer who just released his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Timeless, stated that he had finished his latest project before his son’s death.
Davido, who is a multiple-award-winning artiste, further opened up about grieving when his son died. The singer said it was the love and support he got from people all over the world that helped him to overcome his loss.
He said, “One thing that has helped was the support from everybody. Everybody knows that Chioma and I didn’t deserve that. If anybody in the world kind of deserves it, it shouldn’t be us. Personally, the support I got from people was one of the things that helped me stand up again. This has shown me that I was born to do music.
“I remember I couldn’t open my Instagram for like three weeks. One day, I just checked it and I saw messages from every kind of person in the world. From politicians to sportsmen to presidents. That was one thing that made me strong enough. Get back in the studio and do what I love. I was like ‘you’re fine, you see everybody is rooting for you.’ That was one thing that really made me strong enough to stand up again, get back in the studio and do what I love.
“That’s what we’re here to do, that’s what we were brought to do in this world. I’m just ready to get back, I’m ready to just go back on the road. A lot of things are going to be different.”
