The Osun Independent Electoral Commission’s local government election has been declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Osogbo (OSSIEC).
Recall that on October 15, the state electoral body OSSIEC conducted the election.
The election was held in violation of sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act of 2022, according to Justice Ayo-Nathaniel Emmanuel’s decision from the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
He ruled that the election was invalid since it wasn’t held in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2022.
The court also ruled that the chairman and councilors who were chosen through the procedure to serve in local governments throughout the state must resign from their positions immediately.
The People’s Democratic Party had petitioned the court to order OSSIEC not to conduct the scheduled elections.
The All Progressives Congress and its former chairman Adeboyega Famoodun are additional respondents in the case.
