Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders have killed six people at two communities in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident is coming amid Governor Samuel Ortom’s inauguration of a state security outfit, Volunteer Community Guards, barely one week ago.
Locals said the killings happened at Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh in Mbagum communities, Tombo council ward in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
The herders were said to have invaded the communities around 9pm on Wednesday, shot sporadically, killing six people and injuring three others.
According to a source, the deceased were Ander John, Vihior Mtomga, Morgan Varem, Saaior Uyoosu, Aondoyima Tarbo and Peter Asondo.
The injured ones were listed as Terngu Tyavkase Usue, Igbaule Valem and Chiater Tarbo (a. k. a Ajimmy)
According to member of the community who simply identified himself as Terhemen, “On August 10, 2022, at about 9:00pm, armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh in Mbagum community Tombo council ward, Logo LGA and murdered the following persons
“The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Primary Health Care Ayilamo”.
Confirming the incident, the Security Adviser to the Governor, Lt Col Paul Hemba (retd.), said, “It is true, the council chairman briefed me which I have relayed to the governor and the governor has directed that the deceased be buried while the injured ones be evacuated to the University Teaching hospital, Makurdi.”
The state Police Commissioner, Wale Abass, who also confirmed the incident, said he was yet to get details.
