Herbalist’s ‘Bulletproof Charm’ Test Backfires, Leaves Him Critically Injured

In a bizarre turn of events, a local herbalist in Kuchibuyi Village, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sustained life-threatening injuries while attempting to test the efficacy of a self-made “bulletproof” charm.

The FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that the incident occurred on November 23, 2024, and was reported via a distress call by a local resident, Shandam Michael.

According to the police, the herbalist, identified as Ismail Usman, fired a shotgun at his stomach to demonstrate the charm’s supposed protective powers.

Unfortunately, the charm failed, leaving Usman critically injured.

Officers from the Byazhin Division promptly responded to the scene, providing immediate assistance.

Usman was initially rushed to Kubwa General Hospital and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced treatment.

A subsequent search of Usman’s residence uncovered the homemade firearm and various charms used in his ill-fated experiment.

The police have launched an investigation and are preparing to charge Usman for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, calling it a dangerous and irresponsible act.

“This situation underscores the risks associated with illegal firearms and reckless behavior,” he stated.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, urged community members to avoid hazardous practices and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.

“Community vigilance is key to preventing incidents like this and ensuring collective safety,” she emphasized.

The shocking incident has sparked discussions in the community about the dangers of traditional practices that defy logic and safety standards.

Residents have been reminded of the importance of adhering to lawful and rational methods for personal protection and dispute resolution.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and warned against engaging in acts that jeopardize lives and contravene the law.
