Lewis Hamilton has paid a heartfelt tribute to Michael Schumacher, hailing the German racing icon not just for his on-track achievements but also for the values he upheld off the track.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion shared his thoughts in the foreword of a newly published book, World Championship Cars – Michael Schumacher, authored by Sabine Kehm and Elmar Brummer.
In the book, which celebrates Schumacher’s remarkable career spanning seven titles beginning with Benetton 30 years ago, Hamilton described Schumacher as a “legend” and a “role model” who shaped the aspirations of young racers.
“Michael is among the legends in our sport,” Hamilton wrote.
“His speed, work ethic, determination, and consistency over such a long career are qualities that can only be admired.”
However, the British driver, who shares the record of seven F1 titles with Schumacher, emphasized the personal legacy of the German icon over his professional accolades.
“When it comes to Michael’s legacy, I focus on him as a person rather than a competitor. It’s not about titles or trophies, but about the family that he and Corinna created together.
Their greatness, humility, and sincerity reflect Michael’s values more than any championship ever could,” Hamilton added.
Hamilton’s tribute underscores the mutual respect between two of Formula 1’s greatest drivers, despite their shared pursuit of unparalleled success in the sport.
With Hamilton set to join Ferrari in 2025, he remains determined to surpass Schumacher’s seven world titles and claim an eighth, a feat that would further etch his name in racing history.
Schumacher, who has been receiving treatment in Switzerland since a 2013 skiing accident, remains a private yet revered figure in the motorsport world.
The new book serves as a testament to his enduring influence on Formula 1 and its future stars.
Hamilton’s words highlight the deep admiration within the racing community for Schumacher’s contributions both on and off the track, solidifying his place as a legend whose legacy transcends the sport.
