Gunmen Kill Ogun APC Councillorship Candidate in Abeokuta

A councilorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeyinka Adeleke, was killed by gunmen on Saturday afternoon in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Adeleke, the APC candidate for Ward 15 in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16, was attacked by assailants who arrived in a tinted vehicle and opened fire, causing chaos in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers shot Adeleke and struck him with stones before fleeing. One source recounted,

“The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him, and hit him with stones till he died. There was tension in the area as people were scampering for safety.”

Another witness described the attack, saying, “One of the men got out of the car, shot him at close range, and then smashed his head to ensure he was dead.”

Residents were reported to have locked their shops, and the atmosphere in the area grew tense following the incident.

The late Adeleke had previously worked as a transport union member in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.

A senior police officer confirmed the murder, adding, “Yes, the incident happened. His family decided to take his body for burial.”

At the time of reporting, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, had not responded to inquiries.
