Yet to be identified gunmen on Tuesday launched an attack on Bagana community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing nine people with several other lefts with fatal injuries.
First News gathered that the gory incident occurred on Tuesday night when the gunmen invaded the community with guns and other dangerous weapons.
A resident of the community said the assailants killed four people in a shop located at the center of the village before going on a shooting spree leading to many people being hit by stray bullets.
He named one Alias Barrister, who was a diesel oil dealer and a dispensary staff of the local government health center at Ogba, residing in Bagana, among the other people killed by the gunmen during the attack.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Aya, said that one Usman Salifu called the DPO on phone around 9.30 pm on Tuesday that his shop had been attacked by gunmen leading to the death of his sales boy, Bashir Sule, and three other customers, while scores sustained various degrees of injury.
He added that on receipt of the distress call, the DPO mobilised his men to the scene and evacuated some of the injured to the hospital for treatment, adding that the force has commenced a manhunt to bring the perpetrators to book.
